HMRC Motorcycle Import Valuation
Classic Motorcycle Valuations provides an efficient, independent classic motorcycle import valuation service for HMRC import purposes – i.e. how much tax you will have to pay when you import a classic motorcycle into the UK from overseas.
We provide quick and efficient HMRC import tax valuations for classic motorcycles of any age and condition. Online import valuations cost £90 each and are usually returned within three working days of receipt of all information.
HMRC recommends independent valuations from professional valuers and, despite being online, my valuations for classic motorcycles are fully accepted by HMRC. Unlike a dealer or auction house, I have no agenda regarding your assets. I provide independent valuations calculated as a UK market value in condition as presented. This is typically a private sale price and is adjusted for any work required, when supported by photos or estimates.
It is a pleasure to report that HMRC has established excellent procedures delivering fast turnarounds on NOVA letters after receipt of my valuation reports. A recent client bringing a Yamaha WR250R in from France had his valuation with 24 hours and emailed the following day to say that his NOVA letter had arrived that morning. Less than 48 hours from start to finish is exceptional.
Use the form below to order a single online classic or modern motorcycle valuation for HMRC motorcycle import purposes. My bespoke valuations are highly detailed and created specifically for your motorcycle. They include:
- An overview of current market trends
- Model-specific notes
- The subject vehicle and history
- A look at comparators and prices in context
- A UK market value report in condition as presented
Multiple valuations may be commissioned by email – contact me to discuss. All data is confidential.
When considering the possibility of importing a classic motorcycle into the UK, here are some points worth bearing in mind:
Original Purchase Price: The initial cost of the motorcycle in its country of origin will be a primary factor in its valuation. Ensure you have documentation or proof of purchase.
Condition and Restoration: The condition of the motorcycle including any restoration work greatly influences its value. Original, well-maintained bikes are typically valued higher than those needing significant repairs or restoration. Our valuation will be adjusted for any work required including recommissioning.
Market Demand and Rarity: The rarity and desirability of the model in the UK market can affect its value. Research the demand for your specific make and model among collectors and enthusiasts. Rarity is not always a guarantee of a high price as imported bikes tend to sell for lower prices than original UK bikes.
Documentation and History: Comprehensive documentation, including the motorcycle’s history, previous ownership, and service records, can enhance its valuation. Provenance adds significant value to classic motorcycles. A lack of history can hurt the price. Our valuations are always adjusted for absent provenance.
Import Taxes and Duties: Consider the import taxes, VAT, and customs duties applicable when bringing the motorcycle into the UK. These costs can influence the overall valuation and should be factored into your budget. Note also that HMRC may insist that you use a customs agent, at an additional cost. Insurance, shipping and port fees can also increase cost,
These factors can help refine a decision to import a classic motorcycle into the UK. Note that your purchase price is not always what you pay tax on. The import valuation we prepare will be the UK MARKET VALUE of the bike and not your purchase price. This may still be lower than a bike in good order and will not be a dealer retail price. Better understand the valuation process and ensure you’re making an informed decision when importing a classic motorcycle into the UK by ordering a valuation before you ship the bike!
